Grubby Candles
This type of candle looks great tied in three's with homespun and placed in a bowl, on a shelf, or hanging from pegs. What you need:
presto pot for melting wax
pre-made candles for dipping-I go to the dollar store and buy boxes of their emergency candles. These are just the right size--about 6-7" long.
Wax for dipping
Ground Cinnamon in a pie tin or on tin foil
Scent--you choose
Vanilla or Ivory color READ THRU CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING! Melt about a lb. of wax in the presto pot. Keep your temp low enough to melt the wax--not too hot. Around 155 is good. It's a good idea to hang a candy thermometer on the side of the pot to monitor the temp. After wax is melted--add your color. Stir well. Add 1 oz of scent to each lb of melted wax. Stir that well. Grab a candle. Hold it by the wick, then dip it in the wax and then roll it in the cinnamon while it is still wet. I cannot say this strongly enough--THE WAX WILL BE HOT!! WEAR RUBBER GLOVES IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE EXTRA PROTECTION. OTHERWISE BE CAREFUL!! Repeat the above process several times (5-6). It will start to get all globby in places and look really cool!... that's all there is to it! When you get good at this...you can dip just about anything! Ornies, tags, votives,cinnamon sticks, dried apple slices, etc! Have fun and enjoy! Remember...there are NO mistakes! |
